Balloons
Jonathan loves balloons. I actually think that was his very first distinct word after Mama and Dad'm. Just recently we were in Idaho Falls looking at new stoves, and Jonathan saw another little boy with a balloon. Jonathan wanted that balloon. He threw a real temper tantrum about it: red face, tears, kicking. Luckily, Edmund spotted a group of Home Depot balloons. (I know Jonathan will have to learn that we cannot always indulge him, but once it a while. . .) Edmund took Jonathan over to them, took out his pocket knife, and cut one down. Jonathan couldn't have been more smiley as he carried his balloon (with the help of Edmund) out to the car. He happily pointed to it and said "baalooon." After running another errand, Edmund and I opened both doors to the back seat at the same time, and the balloon escaped. Jonathan watched happily and waved to his balloon as it soared high into the sky. Then, he realized it was gone forever. He wailed about it for a few minutes, then he just sadly said "baaloon."
