Daddy

Edmund is blowing up two balloons at once. Skills the boys envy.

Oh, Jonathan!

Jonathan planted some seeds a few weeks ago, and after they didn't bloom in a week or so, I looked at the package and it said they wouldn't sprout for 30-60 days and they wouldn't bloom for a year! That was crazy, so I took Jonathan back to Home Depot and he picked some daisy's that would sprout in a week, and here they are!! He was thrilled.

I also wanted to document some things Jonathan has been saying lately.

When we found out the baby was a boy, I asked Jonathan what we should name it. He thought for a minute and said very seriously, "Humpty Dumpty."

Last week my neighbor took both boys for preschool time, and I had an hour to myself in the house. It was glorious. I scrubbed the bathrooms and even vacuumed the couches. When Jonathan walked in the house he said, "Smells like women." I thought, "Oh dear, he thinks women smell like cleaners." Then I realized that he was saying it smelled like "Lemon."

I'm hoping it is just a boy thing because Jonathan loves destruction and demolition. We've been reading the Book of Mormon again with him and he loves the "Tree of Life" especially when the people fall in the muddy water. He also loves when Nephi shocks his brothers. (I skip the part about Laban getting his head cut off.) Today at church he said, "Don't touch me. I am filled with the power of God. If God commanded me, I would shock you!"

24 Weeks

I'm 24 weeks pregnant, and I wanted to remember how big I am. I was terrible about taking pictures with David, so I'm trying to do better, so I can remember.

Last Day in March

We had some awesome snowman snow today. It was a little sad because I was looking forward to sunny days at the park, but we enjoyed a little snowman fun.

One armed snowman hug because he only had one glove on.

The snowman couldn't withstand the abuse Jonathan gave it with the snow shovel, and with a little help from Edmund, it fell over. Jonathan loved sitting on this huge ball and then stomping the snowman into nothing.

Freeman Park

We spent a very chilly morning Saturday at Freeman park. I wish I could say it isn't as cold as it looks, but it was freezing. Makes sense, this morning we woke up to six inches of snow.
This is a quick slide. If I had known, I wouldn't have taken this picture, I would have caught Jonathan before he flew off the end of the slide and landed on his bum.

David managed to get his leg stuck here, but he worked it out and went down his favorite slide at any park: the biggest and baddest.

Freeman park is next to the river. The boys had fun throwing rocks into the water. David was very determined to get his rocks into the water, but his throwing arm is a little weak.

Legos

The boys love Legos! They can play happily together for a very long time. It is such a magical sight to watch them building together or side by side.

I'm not sure what happened to Jonathan's face. Looks like a little bit too much of a St. Patrick's day treat.

Rainy Day Fun?

After several days of windy but beautiful weather, we woke up this morning to snow. It melted by the time the sun came up, but it was cold. I didn't want to take the boys outside, and we didn't have any errands to run, but I wanted to make the day fun, so I planned some rainy day activities. First, we made felt faces. I cut out different mouths and eyes and eyebrows, and the boys were supposed to change the faces anyway they wanted. David didn't even give it a chance, and Jonathan looked at it and then went off to play cars. Oh well, I thought, maybe later.

After naps I tried a different activity. I squirted two different colors of finger paint into gallon bags and taped them up on the window. You can draw pictures with your fingers and mix the paint together. It seemed like fun and David actually liked it. Jonathan threw a tantrum because he wanted to get the paint out and paint a picture. So, he screamed in the living room while David and I played with the paint. For snack, I cut up an apple and Jonathan got  a butter knife and cut his apples into pieces. That was fine until his apples became diced into minuscule pieces and he started brandishing the knife like a sword. The knife had to go. He got down from his chair and jumped up and down screaming, so he had to go to his room. It was so sad.

Things got better when we made Lazy Daisy cake with peaches and the boys drank up the juice with straws. They also enjoyed practicing their new talents: blowing up balloons, and playing the harmonica. Although my projects were total failures, we ended the day on a good note. David always wants Jonathan to sit on his chair with him while Edmund or I sit on the floor and sing songs. I'm glad. It will make sharing a room easier.

David had many different outfits today because anytime he got washed up he had a little bit too much fun with the water. Jonathan also had many outfits. I like his choice of space pants. Jonathan had to change because he didn't scoot far enough back on the toilet and peed all over his pants and underwear.

Bunny is helping David with the paints.

Peach juice with straws

Felt faces. Jonathan told me the hat looked like Saturn. Oh well, I did my best.

Harmonica. I gave up putting pants on him.

Foot Rubs

The boys love foot rubs with lotion. Last weekend, David actually brought me some lotion and his socks pointed to his feet then laid on the floor and waited for me to massage them. Jonathan loves it too.

Grammy

My Grammy died a few weeks ago, and Edmund and I went down for the funeral. I was definitely the closest to Grammy of all my Grandparents, and although she was in rapid decline, I was taken off guard by her death. (The flu swept in and got her in less than a week.) I was able to see all of my cousins on my mom's side, which hasn't happened since I was probably 11. Grammy was able to be close to all of us, not just to the one's who lived down the street. She had so much faith in her Grandchildren, and I know she would be happy looking down on us all.

We had lots of dinners at my parent's house. It was so fun to be with everyone.
Jonathan and Kara. Eleanor and Hugo
Jonathan had fun with his cousin's Alexander and Sam. They are all within a couple month's of each other. Sam and Jonathan seemed to really get along. They actually peed in the potty together and shared a love of the mini excavator at the cemetery.

 Anna and Me
Julia, Jazzy, Dillon, Anna, Jackson, Judd, and in front, Rosie and Gordon, and Karen.
Watching Baby Einstein because David took a cat nap in the car and wouldn't take a real nap but was totally exhausted.

The Scare

At our ultrasound last week they told us that there was an area of concern about baby boy, and they wanted to do another ultrasound this week. They said that the baby might have a thickened heart muscle. They scheduled me another appointment today with a different ultrasound tech. I didn't want to ask too many questions about the heart because I was at the post office when they called, and I didn't want to scare myself. I did do a little research on my own, and it still was pretty vague.

Today, I had the second ultrasound. Right away the ultrasound tech told Edmund and I that she had looked over the previous ultrasound, and she didn't see anything to be concerned about, but it was always good to take a second look. Baby was making it difficult for her. He had his legs up over his head and was resting transverse at the bottom of my uterus. She did manage to get a good picture of his heart from all the different angles, and she said that he looked healthy and we had nothing to worry about. I asked her what she was looking for specifically, and she said that the left (I think left) ventricle was too thick. She explained that when this happens it makes it difficult for the blood to move between the chambers. She also said that it is a marker for downs syndrome. She said there was nothing in the heart that made her think there was any issues. She also checked the umbilical cord. A three part cord (2 artery and 1 vein) is normal, but a two part chord is usually an indication of a heart defect. Our little guy had a three part cord. She also said he was measuring at 1 lb 2 oz and was shaping up to be a nice big baby (hopefully no bigger than my other two boys!) Thanks to all of you who have been keeping us in your prayers.

It's a boy!!

The little guy just wanted to look at the ultrasound thing, not that he could see it, but I know he could feel it. He is pretty much just skin and bones, so he is a little spooky looking.

I was expecting to feel disappointed that we were having another boy, but I just felt giddy and excited. It is super magical to see him moving around in there. I can't wait to meet him in July! We are looking for names! If you have any suggestions, we'd love to hear it!
