Canterbury and Dover

Visiting Canterbury and Dover was probably my favorite thing our entire trip. I was totally blown away by how gorgeous these cliffs were. It was windy, but not too cold, and we were totally alone. We parked kinda far away and hiked in. We saw a fox, and then we just walked and walked toward the sea and eventually the path led us right up to the edge. We laid on our stomachs and looked down over the edge. They were high. We could even see France. It was just so amazing.

These woods were right next to the cliffs. I was kind nervous if we walked through them we would just accidentally fall off, but the path just led to someone's fence. I can't imagine living so close to the edge here.

 A very rocky field.

Canterbury was also incredible. It was on Sunday, so the cathedral is closed unless you attend a service. We wanted to go to church, so we happily attended the evening service (which was really in the middle of the afternoon.) There was an organ that was actually up in the balcony area. It began the service with a baroque sounding prelude. The cathedral is so huge and tall, and the organ resonated on every surface. I imagined Bach and Mozart practicing the organ in a church like that. Then, the choir walked in. I thought, "Really? Your choir is 16 men?" When they started their songs and chants, it was so beautiful. Those 16 men filled up that space with such clarity and beauty. I couldn't believe it. I felt like everyone worshiping there had their prayers heard. It really is a truly wonderful experience to worship together with so many different people, and in a different way than we are used to. I could really feel the Spirit there.
 The wall around the Cathedral.
Saints. Lots of saints everywhere in the churches.
